The Oslob whale sharks are Rhincodon typus which are the largest fish in the world. They are considered friendly and only eat krills or small shrimps. Upon arriving in Whale Shark Watching Briefing Station, you need to pay a certain amount of fee. Local and foreign tourists differ in the amount to be paid. It also varies if you just want to stay in the boat and watch the whale sharks swimming nearby or you can actually swim with them underwater. The fee already includes a snorkeling gear and lifejacket. You may also rent an underwater camera and use it while you’re submerging in the water.
From there, you will be lectured about the do’s and dont’s for the duration of the whale shark watching. Be sure to keep this in mind as the whale sharks are considered endangered species now. The attraction only takes up 30 minutes to an hour of your time and opens at 6 AM until 12 noon only.
Sumilon Island is popular among tourists nowadays. It is situated just southeastern of Oslob. Take a boat ride to going to the island and be greeted with the mesmerizing view of the place. The crystal blue water and the white sand shoreline will catch your attention. Take a dip and splurge on the refreshing ocean. Bask in the beauty of the place and work on your tan lines. You can also try the new glamping which is short-term for glamorous camping.
The island also has a hidden natural mangrove lagoon where you can do some activities including kayaking and fish feeding. Sumilon has a baluarte or a watchtower and a home to a marine sanctuary. You can pack your diving gear, rent one or just snorkel to look at the different fishes and the rich coral reefs.
One attraction that resides in Oslob is the Tumalog Falls. As the water cascades from the mountain, it is surely a work of art. A short hike from the road, you can really tell the magnificence of the falls. The grandeur of Tumalog Falls will leave you breathless as you take in the beauty of the place. It is one of the unique waterfalls in Cebu.
There are cottages and tables that you can rent in the area, just ask the caretakers for the prices. When you reach the falls, the diaphanous curtain will greet you. Not to mention, the chilly breeze will touch your skin. The cool and refreshing water will take away your stress. The spray of the waterfall is quite prominent so be sure to pack your things in a dry bag.
As you take a dip on the mini-pool resided at the bottom of the falls, bask in the natural and pristine water. Do not fret as the pool is only at knee-deep length so, you can just wander around and enjoy. If you stand directly on the pouring falls, you can get a free massage.
